I’ve Got A Few Pointers About Antivirus Coverage and Office File Management

January 25, 2012

There are a number of very helpful software tools out there to make me more productive at home and when I’m at work. Some of them, but not all, are free downloads. In particular I am thinking about the importance of antivirus software for my computer.

The thing is, there are a number of adequate free programs you can download to obtain solid virus protection, but they are intended only for home use. Although the free software will protect you from the most terrible attacks, there are other threats that can be a problem. You need to pay for a full package if you want complete protection that is not available from the free versions.

As we all move in the direction of less and less paper at the office, it means we need to be able to work with many different file types, from a wide variety of software applications. This means there will be a growing need to convert text files, images and spreadsheets to pdf file types.

Of course, Adobe is the Big Dog in this field, with a number of other players as well. Adobe has certainly captured a big portion of the market with their Acrobat software, but they definitely have competition. If your needs are very basic, you might be able to get away with the free Adobe Reader, which is easily downloaded.

You will find substantial time savings by being able to work with pdf files, regardless of which software you acquire. This is not likely to change in the foreseeable future.
