Overcoming social anxiety with self confidence.
October 28, 2009
Your social mental health stems from how mentally equipped you are to deal with socializing with others. Even the most easy goingpeople suffer from some form of social anxiety shyness at one stage or another of their life.
If you find it hard to cope with day to day social activities, you are not suffering alone. There are many factors that can cause social anxietymainly because of the sensitive nature of being human and due to there still being a lot of stigma surrounding issues of mental health, most people deny themselves the help that is available.
If we fall ill with a physical disease, we are a lot more open in sharing our problem. Feeling down is often seen by the individual as a flaw in their character. If you think you are suffering from this condition it is important to not feel ashamed. As like a physical disease a mental disease can be treated successfully and unlike a physical disease this can be done without medication in most cases.
What is it that gives us mental strength? Well, some of it seems to be genetic. Mental health is well documented to be partially attributable to hereditary factors. Experience also plays a big part when it comes to mental strength. If we are happy with our current lifestyle, we feel more self confident in who we are.
The root of many social anxiety problems is caused by the lack of self confidence and can be overcome by believing in yourself. If you feel comfortable with yourself that feeling will radiate from you as self confidence which in turn will be picked up by others who will then perceive you in a different way.
One of the best ways to build self confidence is to do a reality check on yourself every now and again. You need to think whether you are taking too much on, try to keep a focus on your priorities. It can be tempting to try to take on more and more things to forget about social anxiety, this is a self defeating strategy. Be smart in the choosing the extra activities you take on; for instance, take up a sport or hobby as that is one of the best ways to build your self confidence.
Self confidence stems from how you feel about yourself, if you don’t like yourself how can you expect others to like you?
